Custom Platform URL

Give your platform a branded web address that students and staff recognize as your institution's

CampusGroups supports a custom platform URL, also called a branded URL. It replaces your base CampusGroups address (for example, school.campusgroups.com) in the browser's address bar, so students, staff, faculty, alumni, and visitors can recognize the platform as part of your institution.

Who can do this: Your institution's IT team, or whoever manages DNS records for your domain, working with Ready Education.

Formatting requirements

Your custom URL must meet both of these requirements:

  • It must include a subdomain, for example https://yoursubdomain.university.edu.
  • It must be all lowercase.

Setup process

Complete these steps in order.

  1. Choose your custom URL. Pick a subdomain that follows the formatting requirements above. Why: the DNS record and Ready Education's setup both depend on this exact address.
  2. Create a CNAME record in your DNS configuration. See DNS configuration below. Why: the record points your custom URL to your CampusGroups platform so visitors reach it.
  3. Send your custom URL to Ready Education. Why: our team needs the exact address to enter it into our system and start verification.
  4. Wait for confirmation from Ready Education. Our team completes the setup and lets you know when it's done. Why: the new URL isn't in place until it has been verified.

DNS configuration

Create a new CNAME record in your DNS configuration that points from your custom URL to your base CampusGroups URL.

For example, if your platform is at https://school.campusgroups.com and you want to use https://custom.example.com, create this CNAME record in the DNS configuration for example.com:

 

custom        IN      CNAME  school.campusgroups.com

ℹ️ Note: Field names and exact settings vary by DNS provider. Check your provider's documentation for where to add a CNAME record.

Timeline

Once Ready Education has your custom URL, our team enters it into our system. The automated creation and verification process takes several days. Our team will reach out when your custom URL has been verified and is in place.
